A former cross country runner started this race as his Eagle Scout project in 2014. He wanted to give back to the center that helped him overcome reading, spelling and writing difficulties. Robert Lawrence, graduated high school in 2016 with high honors and a spot in the National Honor Society. Currently he is attending a junior college with a psychology major, and future plans are to transfer to a 4 year school in Chicago and major in environmental sustainability. Robert continues to promote this race and wants to spread awareness of dyslexia and that it affects up to 1 in 5 people. Specific training is needed for students with dyslexia to learn and overcome their difficulties. The Peoria Tazewell Dyslexia Awareness Network provides 1 on 1 tutors for these students.
