221 Court St. Pekin
Robert Lawrence, a former cross country runner, started this race as his Eagle Scout project in 2014. He wanted to give back to the learning center that helped him overcome his reading, spelling, and writing difficulties. He graduated high school in 2016 with high honors and earned a spot in the National Honor Society. This fall he is transferring to U of I for environmental sustainability from his junior college. Robert continues to promote this race and wants to spread awareness of dyslexia and inform the community that it affects up to 1 in 5 people. These students are brilliant and smart, but need a different way of learning. Specific training is needed for students with dyslexia to learn and overcome their difficulties. Unfortunately these are not services you will see in the school system. The Dyslexia Awareness Network provides one-on-one trained tutors for these students. This annual race benefits a scholarship fund to help families with tutoring costs. Robert and DAN are excited for Robert’s Run 6th year!
