2008 Marathon Training Program

Want to run a marathon this fall? Want to meet and train with others from the area? Then join the Lake Run Club’s Marathon Training Program, which offers:
  • A 15 week training plan

- An opportunity to meet and train with other runners

  • Organized long weekend runs with Gatorade and water provided
  • Weekday meetings with exciting speakers on marathon related topics
  • Experienced marathoners to share their experiences with you

This program will follow Hal Higdon’s 18-week Novice marathon training plan, beginning with the long run on week 3. An alternate training plan will be provided for experienced marathoners. The primary target is the Chicago marathon on Oct 12, 2008, but you can adjust the schedule to fit another marathon.
The Chicago Marathon website is www.chicagomarathon.com . If interested in a different marathon, go to www.marathonguide.com to find out about other marathons, including five that are within a week of October 12: Milwaukee Lakefront, Twin Cities, Towpath Marathon, Indianapolis, and Columbus.

The kickoff meeting will be on Tuesday, June 24 at 6:30pm in the Bromenn Medical Center conference room. The first scheduled weekend long run will be a 5 mile run the weekend of June 28/29. You may choose to do your long run on Saturday or Sunday, whichever day best fits your weekend plans.

If you’re thinking about joining, you should feel comfortable running up to 8 miles before the first weekend run. But don’t let that stop you from signing up! If you question your ability to keep up with the training, contact the coordinator to discuss it. Runners of all abilities are part of this program.

Merlin Anderson is the Marathon Training Program coordinator. You can contact Merlin at abcrunner@verizon.net or (309) 454-4820.

To register or check out other information about the program, check the Lake Run Club website, Marathon Training page.
